Upon receiving a certification in public accounting, he began working for McDermott, Will, & Emery in Chicago, as an associate in 1970. He later joined the University of Illinois in Chicago as an adjunct professor in 1972, while making partner at the firm, Zanger, Lang & Heffman in Chicago, from 1972 until 1983.

Moreover, Mr. Zanger made partner with several law firms in Chicago including Martin, Craig, Chester & Sonnenschein and McBride, Baker & Coles, between 1983 and 2002. He has since contributed as a partner with Holland & Knight in Chicago. His expertise is in information technology law. His work deals with everything related to computers and technology – he describes himself as a transaction lawyer and not a litigator. Civically, he served as a treasurer for the Elmhurst Baseball League from 1990 until 1996.

For his accomplishments in the field, Mr. Zanger has been the recipient of the Elijah Watts Sells Award from the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and was named in the Leading Lawyers Magazine, the Best Lawyers for Technology Law in America, and the Martindale-Hubbell AV Preeminent Peer Review Ratings, among others.
