Though originally planned to study business, Mr. Ciano realized that he wanted to follow his father’s footsteps in the field of law. He earned a Bachelor of Arts from Wittenberg University in and completed a post-graduate sabbatical in international law and legal studies with the Fletcher School at Tufts University in 1992. He earned a Juris Doctor, cum laude, from John Marshall Law School of Chicago in 1995 and was admitted to the Ohio Bar, the District of Columbia Bar, and the U.S. District Court for the Northern and Southern Districts of Ohio in 1996. Mr. Ciano worked as an attorney for Climaco & Climaco from 1995 to 1998, owned and practiced at Phillip Ciano Co., from 1998 to 2000, and has been the principal of Ciano & Goldwasser LLP, since 2000. Mr. Ciano’s practice is devoted to healthcare and corporate law as well as complex transactional and litigation matters. Additionally, Phil maintains a robust sports law practice where he represents certified players and agents in baseball, basketball, football, and golf.

For almost two decades, Mr. Ciano has represented high-performing, nationally renowned physicians and physician practice groups in and outside of Northeast Ohio. Mr. Ciano’s roster of physicians and physician practice groups spans through the Cleveland Clinic Foundation, University Hospitals, Akron Children’s Hospital, and a wide array of health systems in the surrounding region. In corporate and commercial litigation, he has represented a number of corporations such as UBS, Merrill Lynch/Bank of America, Georgia-Pacific Corporation, and Harmony International. Furthermore, Mr. Ciano is honored to serve as court-appointed Special Master in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Ohio and was court-appointed receiver and mediator in the Cuyahoga Court of Common Pleas. When not practicing law, Mr. Ciano is privileged to have taught public school religion at Gesu Catholic School and is honored to have served on a variety of boards in technology, finance, healthcare and education.
