E. John Buzza, Lawyer and Managing Member at Buzza Dreier & Johnson LLC, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Lawyers for dedication, achievements, and leadership in the legal profession.
Mr. Buzza knew from a young age that he wanted to become an attorney, but started college with the intention of becoming a dentist. He reconsidered, rerouting his education back to the law, and earned a Bachelor of Arts from Marquette University in 1967. He continued his studies, going on to earn a JD from the university in 1969. After graduation, Mr. Buzza was licensed to practice law in the state of Wisconsin, and in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Wisconsin. The following year, he was licensed to practice law in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Wisconsin.
In 1974, Mr. Buzza was additionally licensed to practice law in the United States Tax Court, and in 1979, he was licensed to practice in the United States Supreme Court. For the first stretch of his legal career, he worked as a partner for Glinski & Buzza. He has served as a shareholder and director for Terwilliger, Wakeen, Piehler & Conway S.C. since 1976, and worked as an attorney for First Law Group S.C. for 20 years, from 1996 to 2016. He credits one of his partners, the late Neil Conway, as a mentor and influential figure in his career. In 2016, Mr. Buzza started as an attorney and managing member at Buzza Dreier & Johnson LLC, where he continues to work to this day.
In addition to his legal pursuits, Mr. Buzza has been an active member of a variety of local organizations. From 1976 to 1980, he served on the board of directors for the Stevens Point Chamber of Commerce. From 1982 to 1990, he was president of the board of directors for the Parcelli High School Educational Foundation. He has worked as corporate counsel for the board of directors of the University of Wisconsin Stevens Point Foundation since 1976, and was president and consultant to the Portage County Economic Development Corporation from 1985 to 1989. From 2006 to 2014, Mr. Buzza also worked as the director and president of the Community Foundation of Stevens Point. Since 1985, he has served as a consultant to the Portage County Economic Development Corporation.
In recognition of his legal excellence, Mr. Buzza was named a Lawyer of Distinction in 2019. He stresses the importance of technological literacy in the legal profession and advises any aspiring lawyers to maintain a strong skillset of technological knowledge. He also advises future attorneys to keep an open mind and focus on client needs. He believes that his work as a lawyer has taught him how to become a better listener, both in professional environments and at home with his family. Mr. Buzza credits his wife, Mary, as his most loyal supporter, whose encouragement helped him grow and develop in his career since his days in law school. As a testament to his success, he was featured in the ninth edition of Who’s Who in American Law.
