Robert Anthony Spolzino, Partner at Spolzino Smith Buss & Jacobs, LLP, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Lawyers for dedication, achievements, and leadership in land use and environmental matters.
In high school, Mr. Spolzino wanted to become a doctor. He did a service project at the local hospital and realized he did not like that career path. He recalled a love for history, as well as growing up in a political family. His uncle, Bill Sirigano was a prominent lawyer involved in local politics and was his mentor. Mr. Spolzino describes his uncle as “the most brilliant person” he knew, so he decided to pursue law like his uncle. He earned an AB cum laude from Georgetown University in 1980 and a JD from St. John’s University in 1983.
Dreaming of becoming a justice of the court, and eventually becoming one, was one of the greatest moments of Mr. Spolzino’s life. He started out as a court attorney for the Supreme Court of the State of New York Appellate Division of the Second Judicial Department in 1983 and in 1985 he moved up to confidential law secretary to the associate justice until 1986. From 1987 to 2001, Mr. Spolzino spent his time as a partner of multiple law firms before becoming a justice of the Supreme Court of the State of New York in 2001. In 2004, he became a justice of the Supreme Court of the State of New York Appellate Division and held that position until 2009. After serving time as a justice, he went back to being a partner in a law firm, a position he is still in today. As a testament to his success, Mr. Spolzino has been inducted as a member of the American Bar Association, the New York State Bar Association, the Westchester County Bar Association and the Northern Westchester Bar Association. He was also one of seven lawyers nominated by the New York State Commission on Judicial Nomination for a seat in the New York State Court of Appeals in 2017.
