With nearly 35 years of professional experience, Mr. Szymanski served as an assistant public defender with Cook County Public Defenders from 1978 to 2012. In addition to his primary role, he was a deputy sheriff with the theft court of the Cook County Police Department. The factors or attributes that Mr. Szymanski feel have played a role in his success is putting in hard work and continuing his education on law by attending seminars for updates. In addition, he credits taking jury trial practice courses at Northwestern Law to broaden his career horizons.
Mr. Szymanski began his career as a student at the University of Illinois, where he obtained a Bachelor of Arts in criminal justice in 1969. He continued his studies with John Marshall Law School, earning a Juris Doctor in 1976. Mr. Szymanski became involved in his profession because he wanted to focus on law following his service in the US Army.
Throughout his career, Mr. Szymanski has been recognized for his accomplishments. He has received awards and accolades for his contributions. He has been featured in numerous honors publications. Out of all his achievements and accomplishments, he is still proudest of graduating from law school. Many people had told him it wouldn’t be possible for him to graduate and he was happy to prove the naysayers wrong upon earning a JD.
