In addition to his private practice work, he serves as an arbitrator and mediator for the Contra Costa Superior Court in Martinez, CA, and judge pro tempore for various municipal and superior courts in Contra Costa County. Additionally, he is the founder of the Mount Diablo Courthouse Alternatives Program. Early on in his career, Mr. Thiessen came to prominence in a number of roles, including secretary and director of the First Western Savings and Loan Association, professor for John F. Kennedy University and attorney for Kaiser Industries.
Before establishing himself professionally, Mr. Thiessen served as captain of the U.S. Air Force in active duty for three years with two additional years in the reserves. He also achieved a Bachelor of Arts from Duke University, completed postgraduate coursework at the State University of New York at Plattsburgh, and earned a JD from Hastings College of Law. He was admitted to the California Bar Association in 1967 and has been performing top of the line legal work ever since. In recognition of his professional excellence, Mr. Thiessen was the recipient of a Who’s Who Lifetime Achievement Award and he was listed in numerous editions of Who’s Who in American Law, Who’s Who in the West, and Who’s Who in America. When asked of his professional success, Mr. Thiessen credits his persistence and faith. He remains at the top of his field through his memberships with the Hastings College of Law Alumni Association, California Trial Lawyers, the Contra Costa County Bar Association, the American Arbitration Association, the International Bar Association, Markham Regional Arboretum, and the American Bar Association.
In the spirit of “always doing your best,” Mr. Thiessen places an emphasis on the importance of giving back to his community. He has always committed himself to doing the best that he can for his rotary, church, family and Eagle Scouts. He supports his community through his work with the Boy Scouts of America in Mount Diablo and Contra Costa County, as well as with the Alamo Park and Recreation Commission, the Diablo Valley Foundation for Aging, the East Bay Community Foundation, and the San Ramon Valley Planning Committee. Mr. Thiessen’s incredible civic work has resulted in him being named San Ramon Valley Citizen of the Year by Valley Pioneer Newspaper. He also earned a Silver Beaver Award from the Boy Scouts of America, a Silver Wheel from IFSR and a Cliff Dochterman Award from IFSR. As he looks to the future, Mr. Thiessen intends to continue his involvement in his community.
