Jane Whitt Sellers, Partner at McGuireWoods LLP, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Lawyers for dedication, achievements, and leadership in corporate law.
The opportunities that Ms. Sellers has had to work with public companies in the corporate finance and mergers and acquisitions arena have been among the most interesting and satisfying accomplishments she has had. Today, she celebrates a successful career that began in 1980. For the duration of her tenure, she has worked in partnership with McGuireWoods, LLP, for twenty two years in Richmond, Virginia, and then in the Charlotte, North Carolina office from 2002 to the present. She served as an associate for eight years before achieving the role of partner in 1988. Along the way, she has been afforded the opportunity to impact her industry as a member of the securities opinion committee in the business law section of the American Bar Association. With the Virginia State Bar, she served as president of the Young Lawyers Conference, served on the board of governors for the business law section, and spent a year as the organization’s chair. Since 2003, Ms. Sellers has also been a member of the Society of Corporate Governance Professionals. Considered an expert by industry professionals, Ms. Sellers has contributed to professional journals and webinar presentations. She is also known as a speaker in her field.
A believer that women should not be held back in any way in their professions, Ms. Sellers is an advocate for education for women. Her own academic achievements include a Bachelor of Arts in mathematics from Hollins University, a Master of Science in mathematics from Virginia Tech, and a Juris Doctor from the University of Virginia School of Law. Additionally, Ms. Sellers is a member of Phi Beta Kappa, The Order of the Coif, and serves on the Board of the Alamance Country Club in Burlington, North Carolina. She has served as a member of The Vestry and as senior Warden of The Episcopal Church of The Holy Comforter in Burlington, North Carolina. In her local community, she has supported education through her work as a trustee for a number of academic institutions, including St. Margaret’s School, The Burlington School, The University of the South, and Church Schools in the Diocese of Virginia. She is currently serving on the board of the Alamance Country Club in Burlington, North Carolina. As she looks ahead to the future, Ms. Sellers intends to achieve continued success in her professional life.
