Charles McDevitt, partner and founder of McDevitt and Miller, LLP, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Lawyers for dedication, achievements, and leadership in law.

With more than 60 years of professional experience, Judge McDevitt has been the partner and founder of McDevitt and Miller, LLP since 1997. Prior to obtaining his current role, he was chief justice of the Idaho Supreme Court from 1993 to 1997, having been a justice since 1989. He was previously a co-founder of Givens, McDevitt, Pursely and Webb from 1978 to 1989, and a public defender for Ada County from 1976 to 1978. In his career, he has been honored with a Distinguished Lawyer Award from the Idaho State Bar, a Professional Award and a Legal Merit Award from the University of Idaho.

From 1973 to 1976, Judge McDevitt was executive vice president of Singer Company, having been group vice president since 1970. He was president of Beck Industries from 1968 to 1970, and a member of the Idaho State Legislature from 1963 to 1966. Earlier in his career, he held a number of positions with Boise Cascade Corporation, including vice president and secretary from 1967 to 1968, secretary and general counsel from 1965 to 1967, assistant secretary from 1962 to 1968, and partner with Richards, Haga, and Eberle. Judge McDevitt was inspired to become a lawyer because his father, Bernard, was a lawyer.

Judge McDevitt began his career with the United States Army, serving to the rank of corporal from 1952 to 1954. He then joined the University of Idaho, earning a Bachelor of Laws in 1956. He has been admitted to practice in the state of Idaho, as well as before the United States District Court for the District of Idaho and the United State Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. Throughout the duration of his career, the one highlight that stood out the most was getting married to the love of his life, Virginia L. Heller, 65 years ago.
