Diane Gatewood, assistant attorney general at New York State Office of the Attorney General, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Lawyers for dedication, achievements, and leadership in securities.
With more than 40 years of professional experience, Ms. Gatewood has been an assistant attorney general with the office of investor protection and securities at the New York State Office of the Attorney General since 1999. Prior to obtaining this positions, she was in private practice in 1998, vice president and senior analyst at Moody’s Investors service from 1989 to 1997, and new listings manager with American Stock Exchange from 1987 to 1989. Earlier in her career, she was a securities analyst with AG Edwards from 1978 to 1987 and a legal assistant with Wilson, Smith, and McCullin from 1977 to 1978.
Ms. Gatewood began her career as a student at Washington University, where she obtained a Bachelor of Arts in 1973. She continued her studies with Northwestern University, earning a Juris Doctor in 1976. She has been admitted to practice in the District of Columbia and the states of New York and Illinois, as well as before the United States District Courts for the Northern District of Illinois, the Eastern and Southern Districts of New York, the United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit, and the United States Supreme Court. Ms. Gatewood was inspired to go into law by her mother, who was a real estate agent, so she feels she is a second generation in the business world. A highlight of Ms. Gatewood’s career was an interview she conducted with the Hon. Constance Baker Motley for Brooklyn All Access TV in the 1990s. The interview was produced and filmed by an all-female crew.
