With more than 50 years of professional experience, Dr. Sorrentino has been a prosecutor at the Office of Riverside/LA District Attorney since 1981. Prior to obtaining his current role, he was an adjunct professor at the University of Southern California, the University of California, Irvine, Pepperdine University, and UCLA from 1971 to 1981 and juvenile court judge pro tempore from 1974 to 1976. Earlier in his career, he was a writer for Prentice Hall from 1968 to 1971 and a prosecutor intern with the US Department of Justice in 1968.

Dr. Sorrentino began his career as a student at the University of California, Santa Barbara, where he obtained a Bachelor of Arts in 1963. He continued his studies with Harvard Law School, earning a Juris Doctor in 1967. He then joined the University of California, Los Angeles, completing a Master of Arts in 1971. He later received a doctorate from Southern Vermont College in 1976. Dr. Sorrentino has been admitted to practice in the state of California. In his career, he has argued in the Supreme Court on constitutional issues. In criminal law, he participated in 140 appellate litigations on criminal law issues and 123 criminal trials. Throughout his career, Dr. Sorrentino won 238 trials and appeals, including significant victories such as People v. Williams 17 California 4th 148, and People v. Lee 22 California 4th 41. He also writes prolifically and has published six books.
