George Etter IV, Retired Development Specialist at the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Lawyers for dedication, achievements, and leadership in probate law.
Interested in the legal industry from a young age, Mr. Etter was influenced by his uncle and cousin, who were both lawyers. Attending Baylor University, he received a Bachelor of Arts and Doctor of Jurisprudence in 1964 and 1965, respectively. Admitted to the Texas Bar Association soon thereafter, he commenced his professional career as a national trust examiner with the U.S. Treasurer in Dallas, TX, a role he held from 1966 to 1975. During this time, he received a Master of Science in trust administration from Northwestern University in 1973. Subsequently, he served as bank vice president with the Southern National Bank of Houston from 1975 to 1980 and a bank vice president and trust officer with the U.S. National Bank of Galveston from 1980 to 1990. He concluded his legal career in 1990 as a development specialist for the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston.
During his tenure in law and finance, Mr. Etter was also a pro bono coordinator for the Heart of Texas Legal Services in Waco, TX, from 1992 to 1993. He also served as vice president of budget and allocations at the Galveston United Way, which he cites as a career highlight. Likewise, he acted as vice president of the Galveston Historical Foundation and treasurer of the Mental Health Association in Galveston in 1987. A certified financial services counselor, he maintained membership with the Galveston Estate Planning Council, where he served as vice president in 1983 and president in 1984.
Since retiring from the legal industry, Mr. Etter served as a rancher for 15 years between 1990 and 2005. The proud father of one son and one son-in-law, he also has one grandson. In his spare time, he enjoys international travel, photography, classical music and riding. He was notably highlighted in the 21st and 22nd editions of Who’s Who in the South and Southwest.
