Gregory Brown, Partner at Holland & Knight, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Lawyers for dedication, achievements, and leadership in employee benefits and executive compensation law.
Mr. Brown became a lawyer in 1976 and was greatly swayed to enter the profession after learning about the Pension Reform of 1074. This act presented a real opportunity for a young lawyer in employee benefits and executive compensation. Mr. Brown became ingrained in employee ownership work after working with the Investment-based Tax Credit Stock Ownership Plan. Upon reflecting on his work, Mr. Brown points out the highlights have been the numerous transactions he has been involved with since the beginning of his career, as well as working with many great lawyers, clients and professionals.
In order to practice law, Mr. Brown was first set on this path by earning a Bachelor of Science in business and economics from the University of Kentucky in 1973. He continued at the University of Illinois where he earned a JD in 1976. That same year he was admitted to the State Bar of Illinois. There have been several occasions where Mr. Brown has been recognized for his work, these include being named one of the Best Lawyers in America and being named one of the Top Benefits Lawyers from the National Law Journal in 1998.
While Mr. Brown has been a practicing partner at Holland & Knight since 2014, he had previously served as a partner at Batten Muchin Roseman LLP, Gardner, Carton & Douglas, Seyfarth, Shaw, Fairweather & Geraldson, Oppenheimer Wolff & Donelly and Keck, Mahin & Cate. He started out as an associate attorney with McDermott, Will & Emery and then at Mayer, Brown & Platt. In his career, he has maintained professional affiliation with the American Bar Association, the American College of Employee Benefits Counsel, the International Pension and Employee Benefit Lawyers Association, the ESOP Association and the National Center for Employee Ownership among many other organizations. He has been included in several editions of Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in American Law, Who’s Who in the Midwest and Who’s Who in the World.
