Thomas Anderton Wiseman Jr., Retired Senior Judge at the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Tennessee, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Lawyers for dedication, achievements, and leadership in the legal industry.
Drawing upon 60 years of practiced industry experience, Mr. Wiseman is an esteemed legal professional who most recently served as a senior judge for the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Tennessee from 1995 until his retirement in 2016. Prior to this role, he was a judge from 1978 to 1984 and again from 1991 to 1995, and a chief judge from 1984 to 1991. During this time, he also served as the chair of the district judges conference and the sixth circuit representative of the Judicial Conference of the United States, as well as a member of the bankruptcy advisory rules committee. Before delving into his position as judge, he worked in multiple law firms, including as a partner with Chambers & Wiseman and Haynes, Wiseman & Hull. He commenced his career in private practice in 1956.
Mr. Wiseman holds a Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Laws from Vanderbilt University, as well as a Master of Laws from the University of Virginia. Admitted to practice law in the state of Tennessee, he was the associate editor of the Vanderbilt Law Review from 1953 to 1954 during his collegiate studies. Later on in his career, he briefly served as an adjunct professor of law at the Vanderbilt University Law School and was a member of the Tennessee House of Representatives.
As a testament to his success, Mr. Wiseman has accrued several accolades. A fellow of the Tennessee Bar Foundation, he has been highlighted in Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in American Law, Who’s Who in American Politics, and Who’s Who in the South and Southwest.
