Thomas E. Towe, LLM, Partner at Towe, Ball, Mackey, Sommerfeld & Turner, P.L.L.P., has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Lawyers for dedication, achievements, and leadership in the legal industry.
Initially inspired to become a banker much like his father, Mr. Towe was advised to go into the field of law to prepare for a profession in banking. Upon attending college, he discovered that the legal industry was better suited for his skill set and, therefore, embarked upon a journey which has laid the foundation for his prominent career today. A partner with Towe, Ball, Mackey, Sommerfeld & Turner, P.L.L.P., since 1967, Mr. Towe has also served in a number of other positions during this appointment, including as a lecturer at the Institute of Law at Bashkir State University in Russia, and a legislator for the Montana State Senate and Montana House of Representatives in Billings, MT. Since 2017, he has further been affiliated with Hell Creek State Park as liaison to the director of fish, wildlife and parks.
Prior to embarking on his professional path, Mr. Towe pursued formal education at the University of Paris in France, completing coursework in 1956. He subsequently earned a Bachelor of Arts from Earlham College in 1959 and a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Montana in 1962. Going on to receive a Master of Laws from Georgetown University in 1965, he completed further coursework at the University of Michigan from 1965 to 1967. He has contributed myriad articles to law reviews and guest editorials throughout his career.
Interested in civic outreach, Mr. Towe has been a volunteer with Our Montana, Inc., since 1993, a nonprofit organization dedicated to the enjoyment of Montana’s natural, historic and recreational resources. In recognition of his outstanding undertakings in law, he has accrued numerous accolades, such as the Jeanette Rankin Civil Liberties Award from the American Civil Liberties Union and the 50 Year Pin Award from the State Bar of Montana. Likewise, he was named one of 100 Most Influential Montanans in the 20th Century by Missoulian, one of 12 state officials in the United States as “Stars of the States” by Washington Monthly Magazine, and one of 10 Best State and Local Officials in the United States by Mother Jones Magazine. He has been highlighted in Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in American Law, Who’s Who in the West and Who’s Who in the World.
