Ronald R. Peterson, Esq., Partner at Jenner & Block, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Lawyers for dedication, achievements, and leadership in bankruptcy law.
A respected lawyer with more than 40 years of industry experience to his credit, Mr. Peterson serves as a partner at Jenner & Block, a role he has held since 1974. In his position, he concentrates his practice on commercial, insolvency and bankruptcy law, having also held expertise in real estate and construction litigation, corporate finance and restructuring. He represents debtors, trustees, creditors, committees, landlords and secured lenders in Chapter 11 cases, as well as counsels clients on various transactional issues.
To prepare for his illustrious career, Mr. Peterson pursued formal education at Ripon College, where he received a Bachelor of Arts in speech and political science, cum laude, in 1970. Thereafter, he attended the University of Chicago Law School, earning a Doctor of Jurisprudence in 1973. He has been admitted to practice law in Illinois since 1974, as well as before the U.S. District Court for the Northern and Central Districts of Illinois, the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Indiana, the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Wisconsin, the U.S. District Court for the Eastern and Western Districts of Michigan, and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third, Sixth, Seventh, Eighth and Ninth Circuits.
A prolific lecturer and writer on bankruptcy and commercial law cases, Mr. Peterson maintains affiliation with the American Bankruptcy Institute, the Commercial Law League of America, and the business bankruptcy committee of the business law section and bankruptcy litigation committee of the litigation section of the American Bar Association. Likewise, he has been a member of the panel of Chapter 7 Trustees for the Eastern Division/Northern District of Illinois since 1987, having also notably presided over several intricate commercial legal cases. He is further the director of the National Association of Bankruptcy Trustees and a member of the International Association of Restructuring, Insolvency and Bankruptcy Professionals.
Mr. Peterson delved into the field of law from an early age, knowing that he wanted to be a lawyer from the age of 12. Believing law to be a selfless field of study, he had a natural affinity for debate throughout high school and college. As a testament to his immense success, he has been named one of the country’s leading lawyers in bankruptcy law by Chambers USA since 2003, and he holds an AV Peer Review Rating through Martindale-Hubbell, the highest peer recognition for ethical standards and legal ability. Listed in Best Lawyers in America and recognized as an Illinois Super Lawyer, he also received the Lawrence P. King Award from the Commercial Law League of America.
Married to Loretta Peterson, Mr. Peterson is the proud father of two children, Elizabeth and Ronald. Enjoying skiing in his spare time, he has been highlighted in multiple editions of Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in American Law, Who’s Who in the Midwest and Who’s Who in the World.
