Lish Whitson has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Lawyer for dedication, achievements, and leadership in employment, personal injury and medical malpractice law.
Mr. Whitson became involved in the field of law after serving in the Peace Corps where he realized the difference he could make in the world could extend past this work. Since deciding to go into law, he has been able to help clients for more than four decades. He first started as a staff attorney at the Seattle-King County Public Defender Association before joining the Halsell, Fetterman, Martin, Todd & Hokanson firm in 1976. In 1981, he made partner at the firm and remained there until 1998. Following this, he became of counsel at Badley Mullins and then at Stokes Lawrence PS before opening his own private firm in the early 2000s. Mr. Lish first earned a Bachelor of Arts in philosophy from Pennsylvania State University in 1965 before earning a master’s degree in Chinese history and philosophy from the University of Washington in 1967. He continued at the University of Washington to earn a JD in 1972.
In recognition of his work, Mr. Whitson was named the Attorney of the Year by the King County Bar Association in 2000. He received a Service Recognition Award from the University of Washington Alumni Association in 2002 and a Pro Bono Award from the King County Bar Association in 1993. Throughout his career, he has maintained affiliation with a variety of organizations that have aided his professional development. Some of these organizations include the American Bar Foundation, the American College of Trial Lawyers, the American Bar Association, the King County Bar Foundation and the Oregon State Bar. He has previously served on the board of directors of such institutions at the Downtown Emergency Service Center in Seattle, the Allied Arts Foundation, the Seattle Youth Symphony Orchestra, the Little Bit Therapeutic Riding Center and on the alumni board of the University of Washington Law School.
In his line of work, Mr. Lish helps his clients with disability coverage, contractual disputes, insurance, medical and hospital negligence among various other legal proceedings. One of the most profound moments of his career was representing his secretary’s family after they had been involved in an airplane crash and lost their only child. While he couldn’t bring back their son, he was able to represent them in court, offering them reprieve from their hardship. Mr. Lish served in the Peace Corps from 1965to 1967 and during that time also met his wife Barbara.
