Lawrence Bauer, Professor at Rock Valley College, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Lawyers for dedication, achievements, and leadership in legal services.
In the eyes of Mr. Baur, the search for the truth could never become boring or mundane. The idea first began to take hold in high school, when he started reading statute books during his free period. He found the material fascinating, and knew he had to pursue it further. Mr. Baur proceeded to obtain an Associate of Arts from Rock Valley College in 1970, a Bachelor of Arts from Carthage College in 1972, and a JD from Valparaiso University in 1975, as well as certification to practice before the state of Illinois, the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois, and the United States Supreme Court. He then channeled his findings into positions such as staff attorney for Legal Aid Winnebago County, owner of a private practice in Rockford, Illinois, assistant state attorney in Winnebago County, Illinois, and state attorney appellate prosecutor for District 2 in Elgin, Illinois, and District 2 in Ottawa, Illinois. Today, Mr. Baur is using his experience to teach as a professor at Rock Valley College and to serve as an of counsel Winnebago County state attorney. He has held both roles since 2018. His main focus is criminal law, criminal appeals, and American government constitutional law.
While Mr. Baur was making a name for himself professionally, he was also working to better his community. He spent 20 years as a youth minister, and was a member of the Rockford Clergy Youth Task Force, the Rock River Valley Epilepsy Association, the Winnebago County Bar Association, the U.S. Marine Corps, and the Bruce Samlan Soccer League of the Hononegah Youth Soccer Association. He was also on the board of directors of the Girl Scouts of the United States of America.
