Richard Johnson, Lawyer, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Lawyers for dedication, achievements, and leadership in law.
Since he was a young teenager, Mr. Johnson knew he wanted to be a lawyer. Growing up he had a speech impediment and so he wanted to peruse a career where he had to speak to help fix this. He followed his interest at Miami University where he received a Bachelor of Science in 1966. He continued at Northwestern University and earned a JD, cum laude, in 1969. That same year, he was admitted to the United States District Court Northern District of Illinois and the state bar of Illinois. In his career, Mr. Johnson has also been admitted to the Supreme Court of the United States, the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit, the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit, the United States District Court Central District of Illinois, the state bar of Indiana and the United States District Court Northern District of Indiana.
Early in his career, Mr. Johnson served as a law clerk for the United States District Court Northern District of Illinois. In 1970, he signed on board as an associate at Lord, Bissell & Brook and remained at the firm until 2004. In 1977, he had been named a partner of the firm. From 2004 to 2014, he served as a partner at Hughes, Socol, Piers, Resnick and Dym, Ltd. He opened the doors to his own firm in 2014 and has remained an ardent legal professional in this realm. For his legal work, he has earned several awards, including the Edward J. Lewis II Award for Pro Bono Service from the Chicago Bar Foundation, the American Jurisprudence Award in Evidence and has maintained an AV Preeminent Rating from Martindale-Hubbell.
In his career, Mr. Johnson is most proud of his run for the position of Cook County Judge. While he did not win that election, out of the 86 applicants, he was ranked as one of the top four highly qualified by the Chicago Bar Association. He is also the author of “Interjurisdictional Depositions” and has contributed to numerous articles and professional journals. He has maintained professional affiliation with the Illinois State Bar Association, the Union League Club, the National Association of Railroad Trail Counsel, the Chicago Bar Association, the Illinois Association of Defense Trial Counsel and the National Immigrant Justice Center.
