Hon. Ottie W. Reno, Esq., Judge at a Private Practice, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Lawyers for dedication, achievements, and leadership in the legal industry.
Drawing upon more than six decades of industry experience, Hon. Judge Reno is a prominent figure in the fields of law and politics. Influenced by a lawyer who visited his family as a child, he worked diligently to achieve much success in his academic years, becoming valedictorian of his high school class. Determined to be a judge, he attended Franklin University, where he earned an Associate of Arts in business administration in 1949, followed by a Bachelor of Laws in 1953. After gaining experience in the field, he received a Doctor of Jurisprudence from Capital University in 1966 and graduated from the College of Juvenile Justice at the University of Nevada in 1973. He has been admitted to practice law in the state of Ohio since 1953.
Hon. Judge Reno commenced his career as a recorder for Pike County, OH, in 1957, where he remained for 16 years. Thereafter, he served the Probate and Juvenile Division of Pike County as a common pleas judge for six subsequent years, thus opening a private practice in 1979, where he remains today. Alongside his primary endeavors, he has dedicated his time to local politics, serving as a delegate for the Democratic National Convention for several years and a Democratic candidate for the 88th Ohio District for the Ohio House of Representatives in 1992. Much earlier in his career, he was a Democratic candidate for the Sixth Ohio District for the Ohio House of Representatives in 1966.
Affiliated with the Pike County Bar Association, the National Council of Juvenile Court Judges and the Ohio Bar Association, Hon. Judge Reno received a Distinguished Service Award from the Ohio Youth Commission in 1974 and received six Outstanding Judicial Service Awards from the Ohio Supreme Court throughout his career. Notably, he has been highlighted in multiple editions of Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in American Law, Who’s Who in the Midwest and Who’s Who in the World. In his spare time, he also volunteers with the American Legion.
When he is not involved in law or politics, Hon. Judge Reno is an avid horseshoe pitching enthusiast and practitioner, having held the world record for 59 years of attending the World Horseshoe Pitching Championship and winning the world title for his class on two occasions. Having authored multiple books on the subject, he has also been inducted into the Ohio Senior Olympics Hall of Fame and was named an 18-time horseshoe pitching champion. However, the highlight of his career was representing the United States in South Africa during the horseshoe championship game for Jukskei. As such, he commenced an exchange between the countries to send sports participants overseas to participate in both Jukskei and the horseshoe championship every year.
