William Beekman, Retired Partner at Debevoise & Plimpton LLP, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Lawyers for dedication, achievements, and leadership in law.

For over 30 years Mr. Beekman found great success as an attorney in private practice. Prior to his retirement, he spent his career with Debevoise & Plimpton LLP, beginning work at the firm in 1980 as an associate. He made partner in 1989, and served in that role until his retirement in 2016. In his career as an attorney, he has represented or advised the likes of Delta Air Lines, Morgan Stanley Private Equity, Stone Point Capital, and Kelso & Company.

In addition to his primary roles, Mr. Beekman has served on the board of directors for the American Friends National Gallery, the London Lafayette Studios Corporation, the Romanian American Investment Foundation, and the MacDowell Colony.

Mr. Beekman began his career as a student at Harvard University, obtaining a Bachelor of Arts, magna cum laude, in 1971. He continued his studies with Yale University, earning a Juris Doctor in 1980. Mr. Beekman has been admitted to practice in the state of New York.

Mr. Beekman has always taken an active role in his community and has been affiliated with a number of professional organizations. He is a member of the American Bar Association, the Association of the Bar of the City of New York, and the American College Investment Counsel. A trustee of the New York Historical Society, Mr. Beekman has also been active with the Librarians Council for the Museum of Modern Art and the Century Association of the Grolier Club.

Throughout his career, Mr. Beekman has been recognized for his contributions. He has been featured in numerous honors publications, including multiple editions of Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in American Law, Who’s Who in the East, Who’s Who in the World, and Who’s Who of Emerging Leaders in America.
