Serving as of counsel for Salem Law Group, P.A., in Tampa, FL, for the past 15 years, Mr. Sessums is a prominent figure in the field of law, having had the Terrell Sessums Elementary School and Terrell Sessums Mall at the University of South Florida named in his honor. Previously serving as partner of Salem Saxon, P.A., from 1998 to 2003, shareholder and managing partner of Macfarland Ferguson & McMullen from 1984 to 1997, and partner of Albritton, Sessums, Gordon & Ryder from 1961 to 1984, Mr. Sessums was notably a legal assistant to State Senator Sam Gibbons in the Florida Senate from 1959 to 1961. He commenced his career as an associate attorney with Hardee & Ott in 1958.
Mr. Sessums holds a Bachelor of Arts in political science from the University of Florida and a Doctor of Jurisprudence from the University of Florida Levin College of Law. He is also the recipient of four honorary doctorates from Florida Southern College, Rollins College, Flagler College and the University of Southern Florida. Admitted to practice law by the Florida Bar, Mr. Sessums has also been admitted before the United States District Court for the Southern District of Florida and the United States Supreme Court.
Representing Hillsborough County in the Florida House of Representatives from 1963 to 1974, Mr. Sessums focused his efforts on improving the state’s education system, including two major education initiatives which significantly affected public education. AV Rated through Martindale-Hubbell, he has been the recipient of the Distinguished Service Award from the Florida Association of Colleges and Universities, the Person of Vision Award from the National Society to Prevent Blindness, the Don L. and Ruth E. Smith Founders Award from the University of Southern Florida, and the President Distinguished Citizen Award, among many others.
