Drawing upon 55 years of professional experience, Mr. Van Dyke is a preeminent lawyer who has been serving as senior counsel to Bryan Cave Leighton Paisner LLP since 2016, having formerly served its predecessor firm, Bryan Cave LLP, as partner in Overland Park, KS, and Kansas City, MO, from 1991 to 2016. Mr. Van Dyke concentrates his practice on business law, particularly securities, mergers and acquisitions, and general commercial practices. He has represented such entities as American City Business Journals, Inc.; Cencor, Inc.; Concorde Career Colleges, Inc.; Graves Truck Line, Inc.; and the Great Midwest Corporation, among others. Prior to this illustrious role, he served Linde Thomson Langworthy Kohn & Van Dyke, PC, as an associate, ascending the ranks to partner between 1965 and 1991. In addition, he was the legal assistant to Commissioner Hamer H. Budge in Washington, DC, from 1964 to 1965, as well as an attorney for the Securities and Exchange Commission in Washington, DC, from 1963 to 1964.
Alongside his primary endeavors, Mr. Van Dyke has served his community in multiple capacities, such as the president of the Kansas City Jaycees from 1970 to 1971 and Big Brother of Greater Kansas City from 1978 to 1979. The chairman of the Kansas City Human Relations Commission in the early 1980s, he most recently served on the board of directors of the Johnson County Community College Foundation between 2008 and 2018. Likewise, he was on the board of directors of the Greater Kansas City Chamber of Commerce and the American Royal Arena Corporation, having also been a board member of the American Royal Association.
Mr. Van Dyke holds a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Kansas and a Doctor of Jurisprudence from the University of Michigan, where he served on the Michigan Law Review and was inducted into the Order of the Coif. He has been admitted to practice law in the states of Kansas and Missouri. In an effort to remain alert of recent changes within the industry, he maintains affiliation with numerous organizations, such as the American Bar Association, where he served on the business law section of the federal regulation securities committee between 1982 and 2010 and the mergers and acquisitions committee from 1989 to 2010. Formerly on the corporate banking and business law committee and as chairman of the securities law committee of the Missouri Bar Association, he has also remained associated with the Kansas Bar Association and the Carriage Club.
The recipient of the Arthur Priest Award as an Outstanding Undergraduate Member of Phi Delta Theta, Mr. Van Dyke has been recognized by Best Lawyers in America and Chambers USA multiple times. In addition, he received the Baron of the Boardroom Award from the Kansas City Metropolitan Bar Association in 2010 and the Centurions Leadership Award from the Greater Kansas City Chamber of Commerce in 2011. Notably, Mr. Van Dyke has been highlighted in numerous editions of Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in American Law, Who’s Who in the Midwest and Who’s Who in the World.
