Mr. Wales, an esteemed figure in the legal arena, serves as the chair of the international practice at Taft Stettinius & Hollister, where he has also been serving of counsel since 2018. Initially hired by the firm as an associate in 1974 and ascending to the rank of partner in 1981, he specializes in business succession planning and mergers and acquisitions, with particular emphasis on foreign corporations conducting business within the United States and local corporations expanding their services overseas. Alongside his primary endeavors, he also maintains involvement in a number of charitable organizations, such as the Children’s Home of Cincinnati, the Child Welfare League of America, the United States Anti-Doping Agency, and U.S. Swimming, Inc.
Possessing a Bachelor of Arts in history from Princeton University and a Doctor of Jurisprudence from the University of Virginia School of Law, Mr. Wales is admitted to practice law in Ohio and before the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Ohio. Formerly known as a competitive swimmer who competed in the 1968 Summer Olympic Games in Mexico City, he received a bronze medal in the men’s 100-meter butterfly. He additionally won a silver medal in the 100-meter butterfly at the 1967 Pan American Games in Winnipeg.
As a testament to his success, Mr. Wales holds an AV Peer Review Rating through Martindale-Hubbell and was named Lawyer of the Year in international trade and finance law in Cincinnati by Best Lawyers in America in 2015. He has been featured in multiple editions of Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in American Law, Who’s Who in the Midwest and Who’s Who in the World.
