Title: Attorney at Law
Location: Burlington, Iowa, United States
Darwin Bünger, Attorney at Law, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Lawyers for dedication, achievements, and leadership in litigation and workers’ compensation law.
Mr. Bünger didn’t know when growing up that he would be a lawyer, but through the paths in his life, he is grateful it became his chosen vocation as it has allowed him to help many people resolve difficult issues in their lives. It was at the suggestion of a peer during his undergraduate studies that influenced him to go into law. Mr. Bünger was not from a family of lawyers and judges, and as it was not necessarily something he would have thought on his own, he had his reservations about the legal field. This peer was a good friend and who was going on to Divinity School and said to Mr. Bünger that he could take care of people’s civil issues and while he’ll take care of their souls. Since 1969, Mr. Bünger has seen hundreds of cases and works towards the optimal solution for his clients.
With the recommendation from his friend, Mr. Bünger completed his undergraduate studies at Wartburg College, receiving a bachelor’s degree in history and business. He continued his studies at The University of Iowa, earning a JD in 1966. From 1969 to 1991, Mr. Bünger worked as a partner at Kurth & Bünger. From 1992 to 2012, he held this role with the firm Crowley & Bünger, as well as Crowley, Bünger & Shroeder until 2014. His next career move was to become senior partner at Crowley, Bünger & Prill Schroeder and then Crowley, Bünger & Prill. In 2016, he endeavored to retire, but true to his nature, re-entered the profession in 2018 with a solo practice.
One highlight of Mr. Bünger’s career happened in the 1990’s when he and his partner acquired verdicts one year apart that were in excess of one million dollars, which was a lot of money at that time. One came on the anniversary of his father’s birth and the other verdict came on the anniversary of his father’s death. Mr. Bünger considers anything he did for people that meant so much to them as a success. It may not have involved thousands or millions of dollars but the feeling he got from having helped them get out of the mire they were in was a kind of joy. It’s being able to take the load off people’s shoulders. In 2014, he was honored as an AV Preeminent Attorney and in 1998 he was the recipient of the ILTA Public Justice Award. He has also been involved in a number of civic engagements, including the Bart Howard Foundation, the I Club at the University of Iowa and the Burlington Baseball Association.
