Edwin Harnden, Lawyer, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Lawyers for dedication, achievements, and leadership in complex commercial litigation, employment and labor law.
Since 1988, Mr. Harnden has utilized his legal experience and vast skill set as a managing partner of Barran Liebman LLP. Prior to this role, he was a managing partner at Lane & Powell from 1982 to 1988. Mr. Harnden has also served as the President of the Oregon State Bar from 2001 to 2002 and is the past president of the Professional Liability Fund. He works tirelessly to help his clients in matters pertaining to complex commercial litigation, complex employment and labor-related litigation, directors and officers’ coverage, higher education compliance and on-site employment law training among other areas.
When assessing what to do with his career, Mr. Harnden settled on law because it allowed him the opportunity to help others. His hard work in the field has been recognized on numerous occasions and he considers the highlight of his career thus far to be winning the American Bar Association’s National Award for Grassroots Support of Legal Aid. He has also been considered one of the Top Ten Attorneys from Oregon Super Lawyers since 2010 and has been named #1 for Labor and Employment Lawyers in Oregon from Chambers & Partners USA since 2009. His other awards include being a part of Top 50 Attorneys from Oregon Super Lawyers and receiving the President’s Public Service Award from the Oregon State Bar. He received the Professionalism Award from the Multnomah Bar Association and was recognized with the Legal Leader of the Year Award from the Daily Journal of Commerce in 2011. Furthermore, Mr. Harnden received The Henry H. Hewitt Access to Justice Award from The Lawyers’ Campaign for Equal Justice in 2011, the Judge Learned Hand Lifetime Humanitarian Achievement Award from the Oregon Area Jewish Committee in 2009, the Edwin J. Peterson Professionalism Award from the Oregon Bench and Bar Commission on Professionalism in 2007, the Award of Merit from the Oregon State Bar in 2002, the Honorary Alumnus Award from the Northwestern School of Law in 2001, the Membership Services Award from the U.S. Supreme Court Historical Society in 1996, 1997, 1998 and 1999, and the Award of Merit, Multnomah Bar Association in 1990.
Mr. Harnden prepared for his career by first earning a Bachelor of Arts at Columbia University in 1969. He continued at the institution to receive a JD in 1972. Throughout his career, he has maintained professional affiliation with a variety of organizations, including the American College of Trial Lawyers, the Oregon State Bar, the American College of Labor and Employment Lawyers, the American Bar Foundation and the American College of Trial Lawyers.
