Amassing more than five decades of professional experience, Mr. Bernstein is a renowned attorney with a vast array of expertise in several fields of law. A counsel at Goodwin Procter LLP since 2015, he is a corporate and transactional lawyer who specializes in mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, securities transactions and corporate governance. Prior to this position, he was a partner at K&L Gates LLP from 2009 to 2015, chairman of the corporate department at Roger & Wells from 1989 to 1997, partner at Clifford Chance Roger & Wells from 1967 to 2009, and associate attorney at Roger & Wells from 1962 to 1967. Alongside his primary endeavors, he has been on the board of directors of International Preschools since 1966 and has been a donor to Harvard University.
To prepare for his illustrious career, Mr. Bernstein attended Harvard University, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts, magna cum laude, and Bachelor of Laws, magna cum laude, in 1959 and 1962, respectively. He has since been admitted to practice by the New York Bar and before the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit.
Since 1996, Mr. Bernstein has contributed more than 30 articles to the International Financial Law Review and has authored a quarterly column on matters related to corporate governance. In addition, he is a member of several organizations, including the American Bar Association and the Harvard Club of New York. Since 2003, he has been a board governor for the Inwood Country Club.
In recognition of his exceptional contributions to the legal industry, Mr. Bernstein has been included in Best Lawyers in America for more than 30 years. In addition, he was selected for inclusion in several editions of Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in American Law and Who’s Who in the World.
