She attended the University of California, Davis, where she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in political science in 1994. Soon thereafter, she enrolled in the McGeorge School of Law at the University of the Pacific, earning a Doctor of Jurisprudence, with great distinction, in 1998.
While pursuing her law degree, Ms. Mouzis earned a multitude of honors due to her academic excellence. She was a member of the Golden Key National Honor Society and the Delta Upsilon chapter of the Pi Sigma Alpha National Political Science Honor Society during her undergraduate studies. Named to the Dean’s List every year between 1995 and 1998, she was a member of the Traynor Society and was inducted into the Order of the Coif, a national law school honor society for students whose academic records placed them in the top 10 percent of their class. She was subsequently admitted by the State Bar of California in 1998.
Upon graduation, Ms. Mouzis served as a deputy district attorney with the Sacramento District Attorney’s Office, a role she held from 1998 to 2007. In her position, she prosecuted a number of complex cases ranging from misdemeanors to attempted murders, as well as acted as a prosecutor for the Adult Sexual Assault Prosecution Team and the Career Criminal Prosecution Team. She additionally lent her time and expertise to prosecuting cases in the Juvenile Court System.
Since 2007, Ms. Mouzis has served as a private criminal law attorney with the Law Office of Jennifer Mouzis, where she has utilized her breadth of knowledge and legal prowess to advocate on behalf of juveniles and adults accused of crimes. Some of her practice areas include assault and battery, child abuse, domestic violence, driving offenses, manslaughter, misdemeanors, murder, sex crimes, theft and white collar crimes, among several others. Alongside her primary endeavors, she holds the position of vice chair of the education committee of the Sacramento County Bar Association Criminal Law Section and member of the indigent defense panel executive committee of the Sacramento County Bar Association.
In an effort to remain abreast of changes within the industry, Ms. Mouzis maintains affiliation with several organizations, including the California Appellate Defense Council, California Attorneys for Criminal Justice, Federal Defenders Panel and the Center of California Appellate Attorneys. She is additionally a former barrister for the Anthony M. Kennedy Inn of Court and has been a notable lecturer to legal and law enforcement professionals in the areas of ethical violations, preservation of record, gang testimony and examination techniques.
In recognition of her exceptional contributions to the field of law, Ms. Mouzis has accrued several accolades throughout her impressive career. Presented with a Certificate of Recognition for Outstanding Accomplishments and Contributions to the Office of the Attorney General by the community affairs division of the State of California, she has also been named Attorney of the Year by the indigent defense panel executive committee of the Sacramento County Bar Association in 2007 and again in 2014. Looking toward the future, Ms. Mouzis plans to continue advocating on behalf of her clients and performing more charity work for the homeless and animals.
