Hawkins, LLC, since 2006, he focuses his practice on vehicular collisions, personal injury, business litigation, business torts, medical malpractice, product liability, environmental law, professional negligence and wrongful death. Prior to his current position, he was an attorney and partner with Lewis, Babcock & Hawkins, LLP, between 1984 and 2006 and a law clerk to Chief Justice C. Bruce Littlejohn from 1983 to 1984. He has also taught extensively in the Intensive Trial Advocacy Program at the School of Law at the University of South Carolina.
Alongside his primary endeavors, Mr. Hawkins has been a participant in the John Belton O’Neal Inn of Court with the South Carolina Bar House of Delegates since 2011 and was the former president of the Fourth Circuit Judicial Conference from 2004 to 2005. A member of the Commission on Continuing Legal Education and Specialization from 1992 to 1996 and the South Carolina Secretary of State Corporation Blue Ribbon Committee from 1991 to 2002, he was previously a chairman and board director of the Foundation for the Multi-handicapped, Blind and Deaf of South Carolina between 1986 and 1989. In addition, he was a member of the South Carolina Committee on Judicial Continuing Legal Education from 1985 to 1992.
To prepare for his illustrious career, Mr. Hawkins pursued an education at Wofford College, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in economics in 1976. He subsequently attended the University of South Carolina, where he received a Doctor of Jurisprudence in 1983. He was admitted to practice law by the South Carolina Bar, as well as before the U.S. Court for Appeals for the Fourth and Eleventh Circuits and the U.S. District Court for the District of South Carolina.
Mr. Hawkins was the former president of the Richland Bar Association from 2006 to 2007. In addition, he has maintained affiliation with the American Bar Association, the South Carolina Bar, the South Carolina Association for Justice, Phi Delta Phi and the Order of Barristers. In recognition of his exceptional contributions to the legal industry, he has been recognized as a Super Lawyer in South Carolina since 2008 and was named among the Top 100 Trial Lawyers in South Carolina by the American Trial Lawyers Association.
