William N. Searcy, Partner at Brannen, Searcy & Smith, LLP, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Lawyers for dedication, achievements, and leadership in law.
An esteemed figure in his field, Mr. Searcy has amassed nearly 50 years of professional experience in the legal industry. Serving as partner at Brannen, Searcy & Smith, LLP, since 1973, he focuses his practice on business entities, business transactions, estate planning, real estate, trust and estates. The firm was first established in 1937 by Perry Brannen Sr. and has since prospered over the past 80 years. Prior to this position, Mr. Searcy was an associate at Bouhan, Williams & Levy for three years.
Alongside his current appointment, Mr. Searcy formerly served as chairman of the board of directors of Citizens Bank from 1991 to 2016, member of the advisory board of Liberty Savings Bank from 1984 to 1988, and secretary of the Great American Federal Savings and Loan Association from 1978 to 1981. Locally, he has been the secretary of the board of directors for STARBASE with the Savannah Foundation, Inc., since 2008, recently ascending to the role of chairman just this year. In addition, he has been on the board of trustees of the National Museum of the Mighty Eighth Air Force since 2005, having previously been chairman for a brief period of time. He was also the former president of the Chatham-Savannah Voluntary Action Center, Inc., for two years.
Mr. Searcy spent much of his time serving with the United States Air Force, originally enrolling in 1967 as a major general of the Georgia National Guard. From 1996 to 2000, he was the commander of the 165th Airlift Wing, a unit of the Georgia Air National Guard stationed at Savannah Air National Guard Base. For the subsequent four years, he served as commander of the Georgia National Guard, retiring from service in 2004.
To prepare for his illustrious career, Mr. Searcy pursued an education at the United States Air Force Air War College, completing coursework. He subsequently graduated from the University of Georgia with a Bachelor of Arts in 1964 and Doctor of Jurisprudence in 1967. Transferring to Washington University in St. Louis, he earned a Master of Laws in taxation in 1968. He has since been admitted to practice law in the state of Georgia, as well as before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth and Eleventh Circuits, the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Georgia and the U.S. Tax Court.
In an effort to remain abreast of changes within the field of law and the military, Mr. Searcy maintains affiliation with several organizations, including the National Guard Association of the United States, where he formerly served on the special advisory committee from 2005 to 2008. He is also associated with the American Bar Association, the State Bar of Georgia, the Savannah Bar Association, the American Judicature Society, the Institute of Continuing Legal Education and the Savannah Estate Planning Council, among others.
In recognition of his exceptional contributions to law, Mr. Searcy has been highlighted in several editions of Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in American Law, Who’s Who in the South and Southwest and Who’s Who in the World.
