Amassing more than 35 years of professional excellence in the legal industry, Mr. Fergus has been serving as the founder and attorney of Fergus, A Law Office, since 2002. Prior to starting his own firm, Mr. Fergus accrued more than 20 years of experience with Brobeck, Phleger & Harrison. He commenced his career with the firm as an associate for six years and soon became partner until his retirement from the firm in 2001. During this time, he also served as a managing partner of products liability and insurance coverage for four years and senior partner of the e-commerce and anti-trust group for one year.
In his current role, Mr. Fergus takes pride in his ability to provide cutting-edge representation regarding complex and high-stakes legal issues, using his breadth of knowledge and expertise to offer personalized and tailored guidance to yield the best possible results. Specializing in intellectual property matters within the fields of telecommunications, wireless technology, security systems and computer software, Mr. Fergus has represented plaintiffs and defendants at trial and in settlements.
To prepare for his illustrious career, Mr. Fergus pursued a formal education at Stanford University, earning a Bachelor of Arts, with honors, in 1976. He subsequently attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison, receiving a Doctor of Jurisprudence, cum laude, in 1979. Soon thereafter, he graduated from New York University School of Law with a Master of Laws, cum laude, in 1981. He has since been admitted to practice law in the states of California and Wisconsin, as well as before the U.S. District Court for the Northern and Central Districts of California, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth, Seventh, Ninth and District of Columbia Circuits, and the U.S. Supreme Court.
A member of the federal negotiated rulemaking committee with the Golden Gate National Recreation Area, Mr. Fergus has maintained membership with several industry-related organizations in an effort to stay abreast of changes within his field, including the American Bar Association, the American Intellectual Property Law Association, and the State Bars of California and Wisconsin. In recognition of his exceptional contributions to the field of law, Mr. Fergus has earned an AV Distinguished Peer Rating through Martindale-Hubbell. Notably, he has also been highlighted in several editions of Who’s Who in Finance and Business, Who’s Who in Finance and Industry, Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in American Law, Who’s Who in the West and Who’s Who in the World.
