A celebrated figure in the legal industry, Mr. Pieski has amassed 60 years of professional excellence in his field. The owner of a private firm, Attorney John E.V. Pieski, Esq., since 1963, he was a District Magisterial Judge 1970 through 2000 and also was a member o the Citizens Advisory Council of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Resources, during some of that service. Prior to these offices, he served several academic institutions, including Lehigh University as an assistant instructor in government and constitutional law, the School of Law at New York University as secretary of the student body, and Temple University as a research associate in unit law and psychiatry. He also briefly held the roles of member of the Consumer Council at the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture for one year and assistant solicitor with Lackawanna County for two years.
To prepare for his illustrious career, Mr. Pieski pursued a formal education at American University and the University of Scranton, completing coursework from 1956 to 1957. He earned a Bachelor of Arts, magna cum laude, at Lehigh University in 1958, followed by a Doctor of Jurisprudence from New York University in 1961. He has since been admitted to practice law in the state of Pennsylvania, as well as before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit and the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania.
Mr. Pieski is a member of the Phi Beta Kappa National Honorary Society. He received the Interreligious and International Peace Council Crown of Peace Award “for exemplary leadership in reconciliation and peacemaking” on March 23, 2004, at the Dirksen Senate Office Building, U.S. Capitol, Washington, D.C. The Lackawanna Bar Association honored him on January 10, 2013, for 50 years of service to the courts of Lackawanna County and the U.S. District court for the middle District of Pennsylvania as they “are grateful for his dedication to the betterment of the legal profession and the community and to the administration of justice.”
The former president of the Lackawanna County Magistrates Association in the mid-1980s, Mr. Pieski has accrued several accolades throughout his impressive career. In 1968, he won the Voice of America Award from the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and he also received a Recognition Award from the Drug and Alcohol Treatment Service in 1984. He has been featured in the fourth edition of Who’s Who in American Law.
