Amassing more than 50 years of professional excellence in the legal industry, Mr. Hart is the senior partner of the Law Offices of Brook Hart, where he acts on behalf of clients on a range of criminal charges, including white collar, violent, sex and drug crimes, in trials, appeals and post-conviction representation. Prior to this appointment, he was a partner of Hart & Wolff, a partner of Hart, Sherwood, Leavitt, Blanchfield & Hall, a chief public defender of the Legal Aid Society of Hawaii, an associate of Greenstein and Cowan, and a law clerk to the Honorary Martin Pence of the U.S. District Court for the District of Hawaii. Alongside his primary endeavors, he has been an adjunct professor at the William S. Richardson School of Law at the University of Hawaii at Manoa since 2005 and a frequent guest commentator for Court TV since 1995.
To prepare for his illustrious career, Mr. Hart pursued a formal education at Johns Hopkins University, earning a Bachelor of Arts in 1963. He subsequently attended Columbia University, graduating with a Bachelor of Laws in 1966. He has since been admitted by the California State Bar, Hawaii State Bar and New York State Bar, as well as before the U.S. District Court for the District of Hawaii, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, and the U.S. Supreme Court.
In recognition of his exceptional contributions to the legal industry, Mr. Hart has accrued numerous accolades throughout his impressive career. Listed in Best Lawyers in America since 1983, he has also been listed among Hawaii’s A+ Attorneys by Honolulu Magazine since 1993. In addition, the National Legal Aid and Defender Association honored him with the Reginald Heber Smith Award as the Outstanding Public Defender in the Nation in 1971, and he has remained a fellow of the American Board of Criminal Lawyers and the American College of Trial Lawyers since 1980 and 2009, respectively. Notably, Mr. Hart has been highlighted in several editions of Who’s Who in Finance and Industry, Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in American Law, Who’s Who in the West and Who’s Who in the World.
