A celebrated figure in the legal industry, Mr. Spina has amassed more than 55 years of professional experience in his areas of expertise. As president of Spina, McGuire & Okal P.C. since 1985, Mr. Spina focuses his practice on corporate law, commercial law, trusts and estates, township law and governmental issues. Prior to this position, he served as an arbitrator of the Circuit Court of Cook County in the 1990s, as president of Anthony & Spina P.C. from 1971 to 1984, and as an associate of Epton, Scott, McCarthy & Bohling from 1962 to 1964. He also lent his time and expertise to a private practice in Elmwood Park, IL, for seven years.
To prepare for his illustrious career, Mr. Spina pursued a formal education at Loyola University, earning a Bachelor of Science in social sciences in 1959. He subsequently attended DePaul University in 1962, graduating with a Doctor of Jurisprudence. That same year, he was admitted to practice law in the state of Illinois, and later on, was admitted to practice before the United States Supreme Court.
Alongside his primary endeavors, Mr. Spina has participated in a number of civic engagements, including as a board director of the Sheridan Carrol Charitable Works Fund since 1994, counsel of the Norwood Park St. Lighting District since 1988, and counsel of Norwood Park, IL, since 1982. Previously, he served as counsel of several boards, including the Berwyn Township Mental Health Board, the Hanover Township Mental Health Board, the Cook County Highway Commissioners Traffic Fine Litigation, and various townships across the state of Illinois. In addition, he has maintained membership with several organizations in relation to his industry, such as the National Institute of Town and Township Attorneys and the Illinois State Township Attorneys Association, where he formerly served as president and currently serves as a director emeritus. He has also remained affiliated with the Fra Noi Ethnic Publication since 1995 and the Charitable Words Fund with the Knights of Columbus since 1991.
In recognition of his exceptional contributions to the field of law, Mr. Spina has been honored with several accolades throughout his career. AV-Rated through Martindale-Hubbell since 1982, he was presented with the B. Scidmore Award from the Illinois Township Attorneys Association in 2002 and the Lacodaire Medal and Dean’s Key from Loyola University in 1965, 1971, and 1976. Notably, he has been highlighted in several editions of Who’s Who in Finance and Business, Who’s Who in Finance and Industry, Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in American Law, Who’s Who in the Midwest and Who’s Who in the World.
