Dierdre A. Burgman, Retired Counsel at Sullivan & Worcester, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Lawyers for dedication, achievements, and leadership in law.
A preeminent figure in the legal industry, Ms. Burgman amassed more than 25 years of professional excellence prior to her retirement in 2006. Formerly counsel with Sullivan & Worcester from 2004 to 2006, she also was a member of the national counsel at Valparaiso University Law School for five years, counsel and consultant at Salans for five years, of counsel at Vanderberg & Felieu for four years, a member of the board of visitors at Valparaiso University Law School for nine years, and general counsel at Hudson River Park Conservancy for three years. Prior to these positions, she served as a deputy inspector general for the State of New York for three years, senior vice president and general counsel at the New York State Urban Development Corporation for three years, and an associate at Cahill Gordon & Reindel for seven years, which she considers to be among the highlights of her career. Previously a professor of law at Valparaiso University, she commenced her career as a law clerk to the chief judge at the Indiana Court of Appeals in 1979.
To prepare for her illustrious career, Ms. Burgman pursued a formal education at Valparaiso University, earning a Bachelor of Arts in 1970 and a Doctor of Jurisprudence in 1979. She subsequently transferred to Yale University, earning a Master of Laws in 1985. She has been admitted in the states of New York and Indiana, as well as in the District of Columbia. She has also been admitted to practice before the U.S. District Courts for the Eastern and Southern Districts of New York, the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Indiana, the U.S. Courts of Appeals for the Second, Seventh, and D.C. Circuits, and the Supreme Court of the United States.
A member of the New York County Lawyers Association since 2003 and a member of the committee on professional standards of attorney conduct with the New York State Bar Association since 2002, Ms. Burgman has been highlighted in several editions of Who’s Who, including Who’s Who in Finance and Industry, Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in American Law, Who’s Who in the East, Who’s Who in the World, Who’s Who of American Women, and Who’s Who of Emerging Leaders in America.
