A celebrated figure in her field, Ms. Sigmond has amassed 40 years of professional excellence in the legal industry. Recently, she became a partner at Greenspoon Marder LLP. She previously provided her skills and expertise as counsel at Porzio Bromberg & Newman PC. Prior to these roles, she served as a partner at Cohen Seglias Pallas Greenhall & Furman, PC, from 2015 to 2020. In her line of practice, Ms. Sigmond focuses on construction and real estate matters, such as mediation, litigation, appeals, arbitration, contract preparation, suretyship, and bid protests. She has practiced for public works in both the private and public sectors regarding construction disputes. In addition to her current appointment, Ms. Sigmond is the principal of the Law Offices of Carol A. Sigmond, which she founded in 1993 and practiced until 1997 and since 2013.
Prior to her current positions, Ms. Sigmond was a partner at Dunnington, Bartholow & Miller, LLP, for eight years, a partner at Kehl, Katzive & Sigmond for one year, the sole proprietor of her own private practice for three years, and of counsel at Pollack & Greene for two years. She was additionally an associate at Berman, Paley, Goldstein & Kannry for two years, an associate at Tunstead Schector & Torre for two years, and an associate at Patterson, Belknap, Webb & Tyler for three years. She commenced her career as an assistant general counsel at the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority for seven years.
To prepare for her illustrious career, Ms. Sigmond pursued an education at Grinnell College, earning a Bachelor of Arts in 1972. She subsequently obtained her Doctor of Jurisprudence from Catholic University in 1975. She has been admitted to practice law in the states of Virginia, New York, and Maryland, as well as in the District of Columbia. In addition, she was admitted to practice before the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia, the U.S. District Court for the D.C. Circuit, the U.S. District Court for the District of Maryland, the U.S. District Court for the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second, Fourth and Federal Circuits, the Federal Claims Court, and the Court of International Trade.
A leading voice in the legal industry, Ms. Sigmond has maintained affiliation with several organizations. The vice president of the First Judicial District of the New York State Bar Association since 2017, she has also been a member of the House of Delegates of the American Bar Association for three years and the House of Delegates for the New York State Bar Association. In addition, she has held several positions with the New York County Lawyers Association, including as chair of the House Court since 2010, president for one year, vice president for one year, treasurer for one year, chair of the NYCLA Foundation for one year, on the board of directors for six years and chair of the Construction Law Committee for three years. She further remains associated with the D.C. Bar Association, the New York State Bar Association, the New York City Bar Association and the Women’s National Democratic Club.
In recognition of her exceptional contributions to law, Ms. Sigmond was named Residential Real Estate Attorney of the Year in 2009. Looking toward the future, she hopes to run for president of the New York State Bar Association within the next five years.
