Mr. Ott first delved into his profession due to a desire to be a professional in both the investment and legal worlds. Earning a Bachelor of Arts from Yale University in 1965, he went on to obtain both a Doctor of Jurisprudence and Master of Business Administration from Columbia University in 1969. He was subsequently admitted to practice law in the state of New York in 1970.
Initially commencing his career in 1969 with such law firms as Chadbourne, Parke, Whiteside & Wolff and LeBoeuf, Lamb, Leiby & MacRae, Mr. Ott gradually transitioned into legal roles for investment firms, thereby utilizing both his business degree and law degree simultaneously. He held several positions with Kidder, Peabody Group, Inc., increasing responsibility from assistant secretary to associate general counsel, managing director, vice president, and senior vice president. Thereafter, he spent a brief amount of time with Rodman & Renshaw Capital Group, Inc., beginning in 1996, holding roles including secretary, general counsel, and executive vice president. From 1998 to 1999, he served as counsel with Cadwalader, Wickersham & Taft, and from 1999 to 2002, he was deputy general counsel for Datek Online Holdings Corporation. Mr. Ott began working for TD Ameritrade Holding Corporation in 2002 as a chief legal officer of the institutional division and eventually graduated to the rank of deputy general counsel in 2006, a position he still holds today.
A leading voice in the industry, Mr. Ott maintains affiliation with the Association of the Bar of the City of New York. In recognition of his exceptional accomplishments, he was selected for inclusion in several editions of Who’s Who in Finance and Business, Who’s Who in Finance and Industry, Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in American Law, Who’s Who in the East, and Who’s Who in the World.
