Vivian D. Wesson, Senior Assistant General Counsel at Marsh & McLennan Companies, Inc., has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Lawyers for dedication, achievements, and leadership in intellectual property, patents, trademark, copyright, and strategic investments.
Growing up, Ms. Wesson was inspired by her grandmother, who experienced a lot of history and adversity in America as a black woman while working and raising a family. Knowing how hard her grandmother worked and the better life she sought for her children left a lasting impression on Ms. Wesson. She pursued studies in history, earning a Bachelor of Arts from Pomona College in 1993, as she had always been interested in the subject. However, she didn’t feel that being a teacher suited her and so she decided on law school, obtaining a JD from Fordham University in 2000.
After receiving her law degree, Ms. Wesson first worked as an associate with O’Melveny & Myers, LLP, joining Marsh & McLennan Companies, Inc. as a member of the corporate counsel. Working her way up with the firm, she has been a senior assistant general counsel since 2016.
In 2017, Ms. Wesson was honored to be elected to the vice chair position of the New York State Bar Association Committee on Attorney Professionalism. In this role, she speaks and lectures for various bar associations in New York on what it means to embody attorney ethics, and she is widely regarded as a role model. In addition, Ms. Wesson has served as a board member and communications director of the Weston Basketball Association. She is the author of “What’s in a Name? Or a Number?: Attorney Advertising and Ratings.” Furthermore, she has been involved with Guy Carpenter since 2011 and became the senior vice president of the organization in 2015.
