Location: Memphis, Tennessee, United States
Charles Carpenter, Attorney, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Lawyers for dedication, achievements, and leadership in finance, tax and corporate law.
Shortly after earning a JD in 1977, Mr. Carpenter opened the doors to his firm, Charles E. Carpenter, A Professional Corporation in 1978. With his dreams in the legal field being fully recognized, he has been in practice for nearly 40 years, helping hundreds of clients in matters pertaining to municipal finance, tax-exempt bonds, and corporate law. Growing up, Mr. Carpenter didn’t have many educational opportunities available to him. It was due to his mother’s encouragement that he stayed the course and became an attorney to help those less fortunate. He attributes his success in this career to good training, a strong work ethic, and keeping up with all of the new developments in his industry.
Mr. Carpenter earned a JD from Notre Dame Law School. A highlight of Mr. Carpenter’s career was when he first became involved with municipal finance and was the campaign chair for the first elected African-American mayor of Memphis, Willie Harrington, in 1991. They were both church members, and got to know each other. Mr. Harrington was the former school superintendent, and when he decided to make a bid for mayor, he asked Mr. Carpenter to be his campaign chair, in which they were successful.
Looking toward the future, Mr. Carpenter plans to continue mentoring his son, Corbin, and to transition more responsibility to him as they move forward. Mr. Carpenter also hopes to continue to expand the practice on a regional basis.
