Recognized for more than five decades of invaluable contributions, Ms. Bauman has worked as a scientist, teacher, lawyer and public official. Since 2011, she has worked as a mediator and arbitrator with the firm Bauman Mediation & Arbitration. Prior to working in this position, she served as the Mayor of the city of Madison from 1997 to 2003 and then was an appointed member of the Wisconsin Employment Relations Commission. As Mayor of the city of Madison, Ms. Bauman served as the CEO for the city of 200,000 people. She had previously been an alderperson for the city and served on numerous boards. Ms. Bauman worked for a number of years as a lawyer and as a teacher. Early in her career, she was a research chemist for Forest Products Laboratory. From 1970 to 1978, Ms. Bauman taught in the Metropolitan School District. She returned to her own education, earned a JD and joined as a partner at Thomas, Parson, Schaefer &Bauman in the early 1980s. Throughout the remainder of the 1980s, she worked in a sole practice, as partner at Bauman & Massing and in a private practice into the 1990s.

Ms. Bauman followed one of her earliest passions in life, which was science. She first earned a Bachelor of Science in chemistry from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1965. She continued at the University of Chicago, receiving a Master of Science in chemistry in 1966. In 1981, Ms. Bauman earned a Master of Science industrial relations and a JD from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. That same year, she was admitted to the state bar of Wisconsin and the United States District Court Western District of Wisconsin. In 1983, Ms. Bauman was admitted to the United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit, and in 1985 to the United States District Court Eastern District of Wisconsin.

Throughout her career, she has maintained professional affiliation with a variety of organizations. She has been a member of the Labor and Employment Section of the State Bar of Wisconsin since 2012, and served as the board chair for the section from 2017 to 2018. Furthermore, Ms. Bauman was the president of the Wisconsin Industrial Relations Alumni Association from 1985 to 196 and maintains affiliation with the Dane County Bar Association and the Madison Civics Club.
