Leo Garvin, Attorney and Partner at Garvin & Maloney, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Lawyers for dedication, achievements, and leadership in corporate and business law.
Mr. Garvin has practiced law for more than 40 years, starting as an attorney at Fordyce & Mayne in the early 1970s. He had worked at the firm while pursuing his education, and it opened his eyes to the different facets of business law. The firm served several Fortune 400 companies and Mr. Garvin determined that similar work could be done for smaller firms. After graduating with a JD, he worked as an attorney with the firm until the late 1970s. In the 1980s, he was a special attorney general of Missouri for the Missouri River Basin Matters. In addition, he represented the board of election commissioners in Missouri from 1985 to 1992. In 1994, he opened his own firm and has been providing his legal services ever since.
Mr. Garvin studied history in school and many of his peers were going in to law, which piqued his interest. He first earned a Bachelor of Arts from Saint Louis University in 1965, and in 1973, he graduated from the Washington University School of Law with a Juris Doctor. He was admitted to the Missouri bar in 1973, and a year later he joined the Illinois State Bar Association. Throughout his career, he has credited his success in reaching settlements and winning appeals to his perseverance.
In addition to his work in the legal field, Mr. Garvin has contributed on a civic level, including in positions such as Counsel to the Board of Election Commissioners for the city of St. Louis and as a special assistant attorney general for the Missouri River Basin Matters. Furthermore, Mr. Garvin has been a member, commissioner, and chair of The Housing Authority of St. Louis County.
