In addition to his work in the field, Mr. Katz is active in his professional circles. He has served as the founding chair of the Professional Liability Litigation Group in the American Association for Justice (formerly the American Trial Lawyers Association) since 2012, and is a member of the Illinois Trial Lawyers Association and the American Association for Justice. He has also been chair of the Young Lawyers Section of the Professional Responsibility Committee of the Chicago Bar Association, and as a speaker on professional liability issues for the Chicago Bar Association, the American Conference Institute, and the American Association for Justice. Mr. Katz is a featured expert on ESPN and Sports Illustrated, and is a contributor to numerous professional journals. In 2014, he published “”Attorneys, the Internet, and Hate Speech: An Argument for an Amended Model Rule 8.4,” in the Seattle Journal for Social Justice.
Mr. Katz prepared for his endeavors by earning a Juris Doctor from Case Western Reserve University School of Law in 2004 and a Bachelor of Arts in International Relations and Political Science from the University of Wisconsin at Madison in 2000. He has been admitted to practice in the states of Kentucky, Wisconsin, and Illinois, as well as before the United States District Court of the Northern District of Illinois, the United States District Court of the Western District of Wisconsin, the United States District Court of the Northern District of Indiana, the United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit, the Supreme Court of the United States, the United States District Court of the Eastern District of Wisconsin, the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit, and the United States District Court of the Central District of Illinois. Additionally, Mr. Katz was admitted pro hac vice to the Ohio State Bar Association, the State Bar of Texas, the Indiana State Bar Association, the State Bar of Michigan, and the District of Columbia Bar, and is certified in reasonable attorney fees by the National Association of Legal Fee Analysis.
In recognition of his achievements, Mr. Katz was a finalist for the American Association for Justice Trial Lawyers Care Award in 2017 and the American Association for Justice Trial Lawyers Care Award in 2014. He has been listed numerous times as a Leading Lawyer, Rising Star, and Emerging Lawyer.
