Serving as special counsel with Domengeaux, Wright, Roy & Edwards, LLC, since 2009, and lawyer with Hunter & Plattsmier since 1981, Mr. Stevens specializes in maritime personal injury, serious injury, wrongful death, complex litigation, mass torts, class actions, and business litigation. Prior to these engagements, he acted as law clerk to the Honorable John M. Shaw with the U.S. District Court of the Western District of Louisiana from 1979 to 1981.
To prepare for his illustrious career, Mr. Stevens earned a Doctor of Jurisprudence from the Paul M. Hebert Law Center at Louisiana State University in 1979. He has been admitted to practice by the Louisiana Bar Association, as well as before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit and the Supreme Court of the United States.
A respected leader in the legal industry, Mr. Stevens maintains affiliations with several industry-related organizations, including as president and board director of the Lafayette, St. Landry, and St. Mary Parish Bar Associations, the Litigation Section of the American Bar Association, the Toxic Torts and Mass Litigation Subcommittee of the American Bar Association, the American Association for Justice, and the Bar Association of the Federal Fifth Circuit. In addition, he is a charter member and fellow of the Louisiana Bar Foundation, on the board of governors of the Louisiana Association for Justice, and master of the Acadiana Chapter of the American Inn of Courts.
In recognition of his exceptional accomplishments, Mr. Stevens has been listed among the Top Attorneys by Louisiana Life Magazine, Best Lawyers in America by the U.S. News and World Report, and Top Lawyers of Acadiana by Acadiana Profile Magazine. Furthermore, he has been named a Louisiana Super Lawyer and holds an AV Preeminent Rating with Martindale-Hubbell. Marquis Who’s Who listed Mr. Stevens as a Top Industry Leader in 2017.
Delving into the field of law after serving as a clerk typist for five attorneys in the U.S. Army, Mr. Stevens considers the highlight of his career to have been the work he completed on the Hurricane Katrina trial against the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. The proud father of three step-daughters, Mr. Stevens looks to the future, aspiring to continue representing victims of negligence and corporate misdeed.
