An esteemed figure in the legal industry, Mr. Cooper has accrued more than 50 years of professional excellence in his areas of expertise. Serving as of counsel with Westerman Hattori Daniels & Adrian LLP, Mr. Cooper has also held the role of partner with Howrey LLP since 2005. Previously, he was a partner with Shaw Pittman Potts & Trowbridge from 1997 to 2005, a member of the board of directors and shareholder with Banner & Witcoff, Ltd., from 1995 to 1997, and an associate and partner of Schyler, Birch, Swindler, McKie & Beckett from 1972 to 1994. He began his career as a law clerk for the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Tennessee from 1967 to 1968.
Alongside his professional endeavors, Mr. Cooper formerly served as an adjunct professor at Georgetown University Law Center from 1985 to 2003, as well as an advisor on Trademark Law to the United States Development to Diplomatic Conference on Revision of Paris Convention for the Protection of Industrial Property in Nairobi, Kenya, in 1981.
In preparation for his illustrious career, Mr. Cooper sought formal education at Vanderbilt University, obtaining a Bachelor of Arts in 1964 and a Doctor of Jurisprudence in 1968. He has since been admitted to practice law in the state of Tennessee and Washington, DC, as well as before the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia, the U.S. Supreme Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, and the Supreme Court of the United States.
A respected voice in the field, Mr. Cooper maintains affiliation with several industry-related organizations. A former faculty member of the National Institutes on Trademark Litigation with the American Bar Association from 1978 to 1979, he is also a member of the International Trademark Association, the District of Columbia Bar, the Bar Association of the District of Columbia, the Tennessee Bar Association, and the Bethesda County Club.
Married to Linda Morguelan Klein since 1999, Mr. Cooper is the proud father of two children and six grandchildren. Notably, he has been inducted into several editions of Who’s Who publications, including Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in American Law, Who’s Who in the East, and Who’s Who of Emerging Leaders in America.
