With more than 30 years of service as an attorney with the Norfolk Southern Corporation, Mr. Hixon is an expert on corporate tax. Since joining the company in 1985, he has risen through the ranks as a general tax attorney, assistant vice president and tax counsel, vice president of taxation, senior vice president of employee relations, senior vice president of administration, senior vice president of legal and government affairs, and executive vice president of financial and public affairs. Most recently, Mr. Hixon served as an executive vice president of law and corporate relations from 2005 to 2016.
In addition to maintaining a career as a lawyer and rail transportation executive, Mr. Hixon has served as a board member of the Virginia Arts Festival since 2008. He recently joined the College of William and Mary as a member of the board of visitors in 2015. Previously, Mr. Hixon served as a member of the board of visitors with Old Dominion University from 2002 to 2010.
Mr. Hixon was initially inspired to pursue a career in law at the suggestion of one of his teachers. Upon receiving a Bachelor of Science from the Virginia Polytechnic Institute in 1976, he went on to attend the College of William and Mary, where he completed a JD in 1979 and Master of Laws in taxation in 1980. A respected voice in the legal community, Mr. Hixon has been featured in a wide range of honors publications, including the 68th and 70th editions of Who’s Who in America, as well as the 36th and 37th editions of Who’s Who in Finance and Business.
