An expert in the field of law, Ms. Elovitz opened a private practice in 2001, having earned a JD in 1995. In this position, she focuses on family law, especially in cases of fathers seeking to legitimize sons and daughters born out of wedlock, mothers who want to establish paternity and child support for their children, parties who need protection from family violence, and husbands and wives seeking to dissolve failed marriages. In 2017, she became a founding partner of another firm, Elovitz / O’Nan, LLC. Ms. Elovitz has been admitted to practice before the Georgia Superior Courts and the United States District Court District of Georgia. She is certified in a variety of specialties, especially concerning family, child, and divorce law, by the Atlanta Volunteer Lawyers Foundation and the Justice Center of Atlanta.
Ms. Elovitz was influenced to pursue a career in law by her father, who was a lawyer, as well as a captain and chaplain in the military. From an early age, she had a front row seat to the workings of the legal profession. As a child, she was interested in television shows such as Perry Mason, which influenced her decision to go into law, and her teachers encouraged her. She attended the University of Texas at Austin, receiving a Bachelor of Arts in psychology in 1988. She continued at Atlanta’s John Marshall Law School, where she earned a JD, magna cum laude.
An expert in the legal industry, Ms. Elovitz is affiliated with a number of professional organizations. She has been involved with the Georgia Association of Counsel for Children, the National Association for Counsel for Children, and a registered neutral for the Georgia Commission on Dispute Resolution. She is a member of the Collaborative Law Institute of Georgia, the Georgia State Bar Association, the Atlanta Bar Association, American Association of Jewish Lawyers and Jurists, the Georgia Office of Dispute Resolution and a sponsor of the Annual Bench & Bar Dinner and Reception Honoring DeKalb Judiciary. She previously served as a DeKalb Bar News Editorial Committee Member and an Associate Editor of the Family Law Section of the Atlanta Bar Association Newsletter, The Atlanta Lawyer. Ms. Elovitz is also known for her creative works and publications, and she has written and contributed to numerous books and journals.
Throughout her career, Ms. Elovitz has been recognized with numerous achievements and accolades, including a 2018 Super Lawyers honor, a Best of Atlanta in Law acknowledgment from Proactive Resources in 2012, and a Certificate for Outstanding Public Service in Providing Legal Representation to Low Income Citizens of Georgia from the State Bar of Georgia. She has also received an Outstanding Public Service Award from The Pro Bono Project in 2007 and was on the Pro Bono Honor Roll in 2003, 2004 and 2005. In 1995, Ms. Elovitz received the Westlaw Publisher’s Award for Academic Excellence and the Dean’s Award for Overall Achievement from JMLS.
