In recognition of the achievements throughout his career, he is a Marquis Who’s Who Industry Expert and a recipient of the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award.

He served with the U.S. Naval Reserve as a judge advocate general, and has been in numerous Dallas area honorary listings, including the Top 100 Super Lawyers in Texas from 2003 to 2013, the Best Lawyers in Dallas of D Magazine from 1997 to 2013, and one of the Top 10 Lawyers in Texas by Texas Monthly and Law & Politics Magazine in 2005. Notably, he won a 2005 Trial Lawyer of the Year Award from the Dallas Bar Association, and a 2010 True Texas Legend honor from the State Bar of Texas.
Mr. Cowles has been a member of numerous legal societies, notably the Patrick E. Higginbotham Inn of Court and the American Board of Trial Advocates.
