Robert B. Hiden Jr., Lawyer and Senior Counsel at Sullivan & Cromwell LLP, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Lawyers for dedication, achievements, and leadership in Law.

Mr. Hiden was of counsel of his firm briefly from 1999 to 2000, and returned in 2001 as senior counsel with the law firm’s offices in New York City. He has held a number of prestigious roles in his field, and is currently the governor of the Ramapo College Foundation of New Jersey, as well as a former contributor to the editorial board of Futures International Law Letter. Mr. Hiden is a valuable resource in securities, transactions, mergers, acquisitions, and regulatory matters spanning commercial, industrial, financial, and public utility law. He is a recipient of the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award, and appeared in Who’s Who in Finance and Business.

An alumni of Princeton University, Mr. Hiden served to the rank of lieutenant, junior grade, with the U.S. Naval Reserve while earning a LLB from the University of Virginia in Charlottesville. He was admitted to practice in the U.S. Supreme Court, the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit, and the state of New York. Mr. Hiden joined Sullivan & Cromwell in 1960, and made partner in 1968. He is known for establishing the firm’s Commodities, Futures, and Derivatives Group in the ‘80s, and advised a broad range of clients in securities and financial instruments.

Mr. Hiden is a former member of the executive committee of the New York State Bar Association Business Law Section, and served as chairman of the state bar’s Committee on Futures Regulation. He has also been active with his community as a former commissioner of the Larchmont Little League, a member of the vestry at the St. John’s Episcopalian Church from 1999 to 2002, and a former member of the Dillard Scholarship Committee of the University of Virginia Law School. Mr. Hiden has been married to Ann McCracken since 1956, and now has three children and four grandchildren.
