Janet Rae Montgomery, JD, Partner at Daluga Boland & Montgomery LLC, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Lawyers for dedication, achievements, and leadership in Law.
Ms. Montgomery has been a partner of her firm since 2011, and has additionally taught as an adjunct of the LLM program at Northwestern University since 2013. She has been admitted to practice in California and Illinois, as well as the U.S. Tax Court and the U.S. District Court in the Northern District of Illinois. Ms. Montgomery is noted for her skill in estate planning, and was a member of the Estate Planning Short Course Advisory Board of the Illinois Institute of Continuing Legal Education (IICLE) for one year. She is a recipient of an Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award, and has appeared in the 60th edition of Who’s Who in America as well as the 10th edition of Who’s Who in American Law.
Born to Milton D. and Charlotte F. Montgomery, Ms. Montgomery initially studied English, attending the University of Dublin in Ireland, and earning an AB from the University of Southern California in 1973. Her father asked her what she would like to do with the degree, and her answer was law. In 1976, Ms. Montgomery earned a JD from Stanford University, and joined Schiff, Hardin & Waite in Chicago as an associate. She returned to California with Titchell, Maltzman, et al in San Francisco for three years before finding herself in Chicago again. Ms. Montgomery joined her current firm after serving as partner of Pokorny & Associates Ltd from 1995 to 2011.
Ms. Montgomery is very proud of being elected as a fellow of the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel in 2014. She has also served as the principle author of “Income Taxation Trusts” from the IICLE Handbook Trust Administration since 1992, and is the author of such volumes as “Asset Protection” and “Protecting Family Assets.” From 2013 to 2016, she chaired the Fiduciary Income Tax Committee, and has supported numerous legal societies, including the Chicago Bar Association and the Chicago Estate Planning Council. She has also given her time to the Hadley Institute for the Blind and Visually Impaired. In her free time, Ms. Montgomery enjoys gardening, plays, reading, and book clubs. She is the proud mother of a son, Robert.
