The field of law is an exciting and ever-changing practice that has continuously drawn in Mr. Birnbaum for more than 50 years. In his current roles, he is a senior advisor for the Robert Wood Johnson Clinical Scholars Program with the Yale School of Medicine and a mediator, arbitrator and a provider of alternative dispute resolution service with the American Health Lawyers Association. Prior to these roles, Mr. Birnbaum gained his experience through a variety of related roles, such as being the Chief Operating Officer of the Yale School of Medicine and a partner at the esteemed Proskauer & Rose LLP firm located in New York City. In addition, he has served as vice president of the Montefiore Medical Center and chairman of the Board of Directors for the FOJP Service Corporation.
In order to prepare for a successful career in law, Mr. Birnbaum first received a Bachelor of Science in accounting from Brooklyn College in 1956. He continued at New York University to receive a JD in 1961. A year later, he was admitted to the New York State Bar and began practicing as a budget officer with the Montefiore Medical Center in the Bronx. With extensive experience in both medical and financial law, Mr. Birnbaum has offered his services as an editor of “Health Care Law Treatise,” “Montefiore Medical Center and the Loeb Center Experience: A Hospital’s Fiscal Perspective” and “Medicare and Extended Care.”
