Mr. Hamra is the patriarch of Hamra Enterprises, best known for its chain of Wendy’s restaurants going back to the first franchise locations in Missouri. He believes he has reached his successes by being hardworking and fair, and has been a prominent lawyer, entrepreneur, and civic contributor. He is proud of being one of the first franchisees of Wendy’s, helping to build the Electrical Distribution Center when he served as a city attorney in Nixa, obtaining funding for widening the Chestnut Expressway and Highway 65, and funding the South James River Expressway. Mr. Hamra continues to chair Hamra Enterprises and Boston Bread LLC, which has now expanded into the Panera franchise restaurants. He has maintained the private practice of The Law Offices of Sam F. Hamra PC since 1976.
Born in Steele, Missouri to Sam Farris Hamra and Victoria Hamra, Mr. Hamra was encouraged to become an attorney by his father and former Federal Judge Roy Harper, a former employee of the elder Mr. Hamra. After earning a BSBA from the University of Missouri, Mr. Hamra joined the U.S. Army, serving to the rank of first lieutenant. He returned to complete an LLB from the University of Missouri in 1959, and while working as a private practice attorney he launched Wendy’s of Missouri, Inc in 1975, which still operates today with Hamra Enterprises. Mr. Hamra was named Springfield’s Outstanding Young Man of the Year in 1966, and continued to accrue civic honors, including a 2017 Philanthropic Business of the Year honor from the Springfield Business Journal for Hamra Enterprises. Mr. Hamra is a Marquis Who’s Who Industry Expert, a recipient of the Marquis Who’s Who Humanitarian Award and the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award, and has been included in numerous Marquis publications.
Mr. Hamra looks forward to working for many years, going to his office every day. He married June Samaha in 1956, and had Sam F. Hamra III, Karen E., Michael K., and Jacqueline K. Michael is now the COO of Hamra Enterprises, which recently acquired 25 additional Wendy’s restaurants in Chicago. Mr. Hamra is still active in both the business and the law, and even served as a U.S. civilian aide to the secretary of the U.S. Army from 1997 to 2003. In his free time, he enjoys golf, collecting art, and spending time with his family. He now has grandchildren Cynthia, John, Robert, Katherine, Andrew, Gabrielle, Melanie, Brooke, and Max, as well as great-grandchildren Sawyer, Kaiden, and Scout.
